Jason Walter Byrd, 33, died Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Centre Presbyterian Church, Maxton officiated by the Revs. Charles Wentz and Kelly Hunt. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery, Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Sheri McArthur Byrd; their daughter, Alysa McKenzie Byrd of the home; his mother, Vonnie Jernigan Byrd of Laurinburg; his brother, Josh Byrd of Gibson. Born August 12, 1977 in Scotland County, he was also a son of the late Earl Boyd Byrd. Jason served as an auxiliary for the Scotland County Sheriff Department and the Laurinburg Police Department. He also served on the Gibson Fire Department and the Laurinburg Fire Department. True to his nature of “staying busy” he also operated Byrd‘s Pool Service and Byrd‘s Cemetery Service where he handled cemetery details for most of the funerals in Scotland County. When he relaxed he enjoyed hunting and was a member of the 401 Hunting Club and Ducks Unlimited. Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m. Saturday at Multitudes Church. Memorials are requested to the Byrd Scholarship Fund, c/o RBC, 505 S. Main St., Laurinburg, NC 28352. The funds will be used as college funds for their daughter, Alysa, and unborn child.
