McElvene, Johnnie

Mr. Johnnie McElvene, 54, son of Rollon and Beatrice Cannon McElvene, was born on November 22, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan. He departed this earthly life on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at his home in Redford Township, Michigan. Johnnie McElvene was educated in the Detroit Public Schools. Later in life, he attended college in pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was employed with the City of Detroit in the position of Neighborhood Service Representative for the Office of Mayor. He also worked as an Independent Associate with Prepaid Legal Services. He was a member of Middlebelt Baptist Church in Inkster, Michigan under the leadership of Pastor Belton. “Johnnie Mac”, as he was lovingly called by family and friends, longed for the finer things in life and he didn’t take the word “no” for a final answer. He loved to travel across country and especially overseas. His motto was: “…Treat yourself, don’t cheat yourself!” He was well liked and well loved by many people. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Roland Jr., David, Allen, and Anthony; and one sister, Elease Davis of Florence, S.C.; Left to cherish precious memories of Johnnie McElvene are: his two sons, Terrance McElvene and Johnathan Allen of Michigan; one granddaughter, Moriah McElvene of Florida; six siblings, Bobby Jean Nettles and Queen Esther McElvene of Florence, S.C.; Paul Mitchell Jr., Leona McElvene, Elijah Covington Jr., and Alletta Covington all of Michigan; fiancé, Darrlyn Johnson; a stepdaughter, Benetta Davis; special cousin, James Merritt of New York; a sister-in-law, Victoria McElvene of Florida; nieces and nephews, Beatrice Nettles, Michael Mitchell, Denise Davis, Ella Hines, and Robert Davis, all of Florence, SC; Rita Turner, Tanya, Kenny Parker, Ronnie Parker, Paul Mitchell, III, Camille Covington, Christina Covington, Elijah Covington III, Joseph Jackson Jr., and Nathan Pryor all of Michigan; Elaine Parker of Georgia; Danielle Butler and Drake Davison of Ohio; Rashida McElvene of California; and a huge host of other relatives and friends.
