Cobb, James

James Andrews Cobb died Monday, April 18, 2011 at CCH after a period of declining health. Jim was born March 23, 1920 in Cleveland, OH, the son of Howard George and Grace Andrew Cobb. He graduated from the University of Michigan. Following his graduation, he joined the Army and came to North Carolina to train at Fort Bragg. He later served in Europe during WWII. While at Fort Bragg he met Margaret Palmer of Sanford, the love of his life and his wife of 65 years. After WWII, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received his CPA. He later served for two years during the Korean Conflict. Jim‘s distinguished business career included manager of Heins Telephone Company and of John C Muse Co., CPA. Jim was generous with his time and worked diligently with the Steele Street UMC – St. Luke UMC Building Fund and the United Way. He was a lifetime member of the Sanford Rotary Club and their Cobb Award is named for him because of his ability to be a spark plug for any organization in which he participated. Jim was well known for his love of photography, dancing, as founder of the St. James Fish Club, and as a charter member of the Sanford Cotillion Club. He is survived by his wife Margaret, daughters Lynn Faulk, Marty Stevens and husband Bob; son Andy Cobb and wife Joetta, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the home, 1001 Wentwoth Court from 5-7 pm on Thursday, April 21. Service will be held at St. Luke UMC at 11:oo on Friday, April 22, 2011. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.
