Carnes, John

John “Bill” W. Carnes, age 91, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at his residence. Born February 15, 1920, he was the son of the late Rufus and Alice Plyler Carnes. He served his country in the United States Army, fighting in the European Theater during WWII. Bill worked in the furniture manufacturing industry and also drove trucks. He was a member of the American Legion in Lexington, NC for 25 years. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Tillie O‘Neal Carnes, six children, Linda (Pat) Salters of McClellansville, SC, William “Bill” (Jerri) Carnes of Roanoke, VA, Mickey (Paula) Carnes of Linwood, NC, Donna (Charles) Beanblossom of Southmont, NC, Kathy (Jimmy) Trent of Lexington, NC, Debra (Wade) Holbrook of Lexington, NC, sixteen grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Randy Carnes, and all of his brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, April 19 at Belk Funeral Home of DARLINGTON. Graveside services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 20 in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.
