Ward, Mary Liles

Mary Liles Ward, age 85 of Laurinburg, recently of Davis Health Care in Wilmington, NC for the past years, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, March 25, 2011. Mary was born to John and Mattie Peele Liles on July 21, 1925 in Scotland County, NC. She was a longtime member of Stewartsville Baptist Church in Laurinburg, and was very involved in the activities for senior citizens, enjoyed volunteering in the church office and spending time with the late Pastor Lewis McLean and the staff. She retired from Southern Bell in 1986 after 30 years of service. Mary also spent many hours as a volunteer at Scotland Memorial Hospital until her health declined. She loved working in her yard and garden. She was a great cook and loved sharing with her family, friends, and neighbors. Mary was known for her giving heart and love of family and many friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to Davis Health Care of Wilmington for their excellent care and love she was shown as a resident. They would also like to thank the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their support and services. She is survived by her five children, Nancy Ward Herndon of Wilmington, NC, Barbara Ward Hartgrove and husband Jerry of Dunn, NC, John W. Ward and wife Linda of Laurel Hill, NC, Arthur Elmer Ward III and wife Mary of Marston, NC, Ronald Wayne Ward of Wallace, SC, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Preceded in death were her parents, her husband Arthur Elmer Ward Jr., two brothers Thomas and Vester Liles, granddaughter Tana Gail Ward, and son-in-law Knox Herndon of Wilmington, NC. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel with burial following at Hillside Memorial Park. The service will be conducted by Brooks Baines and Alfred Snead with music provided by Garry Stuart. Visitation will be held from 1:30 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. prior to the service on Monday at Richard Boles Funeral Service. The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made in Mary Ward‘s name to the Davis Health Care Center, 1011 Porters Neck Rd, Wilmington, NC 28411.
