Ted Bundy Linked To Killing 40 Years After Execution Through DNA

Utah authorities have identified the notorious serial killer as the suspect in the murder of 17-year-old Melissa Smith.

Ted Bundy has been linked to a murder 40 years after his execution.

Utah authorities have identified the notorious serial killer as the suspect in the murder of 17-year-old Melissa Smith. Her body was found Oct. 27, 1974 in a wooded area near the border of Summit and Salt Lake Counties.

The breakthrough that linked Bundy came after DNA evidence in the killing of another 17-year-old Utah girl, Laura Aime, produced a hit to him in the Combined DNA Index System.

Investigators compared DNA evidence from the Aime case with evidence preserved from Smith’s killing and determined the profiles matched. Aime vanished just days after Smith was found.

The findings close a homicide investigation 52 years to the day after Smith’s body was discovered.
