Lawsuit Filed Against Myrtle Beach Funeral Home After Open Casket Error

Friends and family gathered for the viewing but Evans was not in the open casket. Another deceased person was wearing Evans' attire.

A funeral home in Myrtle Beach is being sued following an incident that unfolded in January.

Iris Evans died on Jan. 14 at the age of 87. Her daughter, Iris Gordon then contacted Ocean View to make funeral arrangements, which included an open casket viewing and graveside service.

Friends and family gathered for the viewing but Evans was not in the open casket. Another deceased person was wearing Evans’ attire, but it was not her. The funeral home was contacted and around two hours later the error was corrected.

Gordon has now filed a lawsuit against Ocean View Funeral Home and Cremation Services, LLC. The lawsuit alleges breach of contract, gross negligence, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. It seeks an unspecified amount in damages.
