Woman Charged After Reportedly Starting Fire In Georgetown Walmart

The incident report estimates $400 in damage but the value of the stolen merch is unknown. No one was injured during the incident.

A woman is facing charges following an incident that unfolded at the Walmart in Georgetown.

On Oct. 1, Georgetown police and fire crews responded to the retail giant along N. Fraser Street on reports of a fire inside the store. Everyone was evacuated as firefighters worked to put out the flames. The fire reportedly started in the rug aisle.

An employee told police she had confronted a woman suspected of shoplifting and surveillance footage showed that same woman lighting rugs on fire shortly after the confrontation. She then took the stolen items and fled on a bike.

The woman was identified as Brandy Moree who was later located at a Dollar General on Highmarket Street. She was taken into custody and charged with second-degree arson, aggravated breach of peace and shoplifting.
