American Airlines Debuts New In-App Tool For Preferred Seating

Rather than repeated checks on the seat map for a potential switch, the app will do the work for you.

America Airlines is launching a new feature in its app.

The new in-app tool will automatically move customers to their preferred seat when it becomes available. The feature will be offered to AAdvantage members prompting users to select the seat characteristics they want upon completing their booking.

Members can choose preferences such as a window, aisle or middle seat. Rather than repeated checks on the seat map for a potential switch, the app will do the work for you. If your preferred seat opens up, you’ll be notified.

The seat changes are limited to eligible seats within the customer’s existing cabin and won’t charge extra. For those booking flights through other airlines, several third-party tools can monitor seat assignments and notify travelers when better seats become available.
