Additional Details Into Hwy 544 DUI Hit-And-Run Investigation

Both victims suffered great bodily injuries and were identified as 21-year-old CCU students, with one listed as an out-of-state resident from New Jersey.

Additional details have been released in connection to a hit-and-run that injured two people in Conway.

The accident happened on Sunday at Highway 544 and Elvington Loop near Coastal Carolina University. Two pedestrians were crossing 544 when they were struck by a Honda Accord traveling northbound. The driver was speeding above the 40 miles-per-hour limit. Both victims suffered great bodily injuries and were identified as 21-year-old CCU students, with one listed as an out-of-state resident from New Jersey.

17-year-old Mauricio Palafox-Correa was the driver who fled the scene. He was later involved in a separate crash involving another vehicle in the Conway area. He faces two counts of felony DUI and two counts of hit-and-run. The investigation remains underway.
