University Boulevard At CCU Reopens After Improvement Project

The project also added new sidewalks and a pedestrian crosswalk at the Highway 544 entrance to improve safety and accessibility.

University Boulevard at Coastal Carolina University has reopened.

The roadway has been closed since May as crews completed a $7.4 million roadway improvement project designed to improve traffic flow and safety along the Highway 544 corridor.

The project was funded through the Horry County Penny Sales Tax Program. The new four-lane road now routes traffic behind the university’s indoor practice facility to a new traffic signal. That replaces the previous signal near Brooks Stadium.

The project also added new sidewalks and a pedestrian crosswalk at the Highway 544 entrance to improve safety and accessibility.

The reopening comes ahead of the start of the fall semester on August 19. The improvements are expected to provide a smoother entrance and exit for students, employees, visitors, and the surrounding community.
