New Study Says There’s Benefits to Eating Less Protein

Current U.S. dietary guidelines recommend a daily protein intake of 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight.

A new study suggests some people with inactive lifestyles…may be consuming more protein than they actually need.

A review looked at 350 scientific studies and says Americans who don’t need the extra protein intake, should actually reduce it, if they have inactive lifestyles.

The review says amino acids within high-protein diets appear to activate a growth pathway that raises negative risks for age-related diseases. The review also says reducing protein intake may help slow down the aging process and extend lifespans. The study suggests a hormone that boosts energy, controls blood sugar, and reduces inflammation rises when protein intake is reduced. Current U.S. dietary guidelines recommend a daily protein intake of 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight.
