Aftermath of Hurricane Matthew
Myrtle Beach residents and businesses assess damage of storm
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WFXB) – Residents and business owners in Myrtle Beach are in full recovery mode this afternoon as they are picking up the pieces that Hurricane Matthew left in its path over the weekend.
“I’m going to try to open up by tomorrow morning,” said Claudio Oviedo, owner of McAdoos Beach Bar on Ocean Blvd. “It will be safe to be here, and all of the sand will be gone by tomorrow. Everything is working. Just have to do some cosmetic work to the bar.”
Many businesses and residents in Myrtle Beach are not that lucky. Hundreds of thousands of people still do not have power throughout the state.
The city of Myrtle Beach puts damage estimates at $7.3 million, according to a city spokesperson.
