Turns out, your car’s condition might be saying more about you to potential dates than you realize.

According to a survey of 2,000 single Americans, 73% believe the way someone cares for their car reflects how well they take care of themselves, while 67% see a messy vehicle as a sign of a messy life. The biggest dating “icks” included trash on the floor, bad odors, and leftover food or drinks. One in four singles admitted they’ve actually cut a date short because of the condition of their date’s car, and half said they judge people based on how well they maintain it.
Despite not always keeping their own cars spotless, about half said they’ll give their vehicle an extra-deep clean before a first date because apparently romance starts with taking out the trash.
