Bennettsville Officer Charged With DUI

The officer was placed on administrative leave pending the result of the criminal process.

A Bennettsville officer has been charged with a DUI.

The unidentified officer was reportedly off duty but was driving a city-owned vehicle while under the influence.

The incident is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol to ensure “independence, objectivity and transparency.”

The officer was placed on administrative leave pending the result of the criminal process and a separate internal review. It was said limiting details regarding the incident is necessary for the investigation.

“The Bennettsville Police Department holds its members to a high standard of conduct and remains committed to accountability, professionalism and maintaining the public’s trust,” Chief Sammy Crosland said.
