Hostages Released, Palestinian Prisoners Freed As Part Of Ceasefire

The moves come after both sides agreed to a ceasefire deal that has halted the two years of war.

All 20 remaining living hostages held in Gaza and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel were freed Monday.

Hamas also released the bodies of four of 28 deceased Israeli captives, though it’s not clear when the rest will be sent back to Israel. Israel said it has released more than 1,900 Palestinian prisoners as part of the exchange.

The moves come after both sides agreed to a ceasefire deal that has halted the two years of war in the Gaza strip that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians.

The deal calls for a surge of humanitarian aid into Gaza, parts of which are experiencing famine. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared he was “committed to this peace” as Israeli military has withdrawn to an agreed upon line. However, questions remain over whether Hamas will disarm and who will govern Gaza.
