SCSU Shootings Leave One Dead, Another Injured

The school was celebrating homecoming on Saturday when two separate shootings unfolded at a student housing complex.
Two victims were transported to a hospital, where a female guest visiting campus was pronounced dead. She was identified as 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler.
The second victim was a male guest who was later flown by helicopter to a different hospital for further treatment. His current condition is unknown.
Law enforcement does not believe the shootings were connected.
18-year-old Matthew McCoy was arrested Sunday and charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and carrying a weapon on school property.
Further details remain limited as authorities are working to learn more. The lockdown was lifted early Monday morning but classes were cancelled for the day to allow students time to access counseling services.
