Trial Kicks Off For Man Accused Of Trump Assassination Attempt
59-year-old Ryan Routh is charged with attempting to assassinate President Trump last year in South Florida.
Jury selection began Monday in the criminal trial for the man charged with attempting to assassinate President Trump last year in South Florida.
59-year-old Ryan Routh has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer, and several firearm violations. He has also pleaded not guilty to state charges of terrorism and attempted murder.
Prosecutors accuse Routh of methodically plotting to kill Trump for weeks before aiming a rifle through bushes while the Republican was golfing on September 15, 2024.
Routh is set to represent himself in the trial, after a federal judge signed off on that request earlier this year. Opening statements in the trial are expected to kick off on Thursday.
