Ninth Arrest Made Out Of Ten Escaped New Orleans Inmates

33-year-old Antonie Massey was arrested on Friday marking the ninth arrest.

The ninth out of ten inmates who escaped from a New Orleans prison has been captured.

The inmates escaped six weeks ago from the Orleans Parish Prison by yanking open a faulty cell door, removing a toilet, crawling through a hole in the wall behind it, and scaling a barbed wire fence in the early morning hours of May 16.

Derrick Groves is now the only inmate that remains on the run. He has the option to peacefully turn himself in but there is a collective reward of $50,000 for information that leads to his arrest.

Louisiana authorities warned against aiding a fugitive and encouraged anyone with information to contact police.

Authorities have arrested at least 16 people who are accused of aiding the escape of the inmates.

State and local officials largely blame the jailbreak on poor infrastructure and the inability to make needed improvements at the 10-year-old facility.
