City Council Approves Pelicans To Stay In Myrtle Beach

The new lease terms would allow Myrtle Beach to own 70% of the stadium while Horry County owns 30%.

The Myrtle Beach City Council voted and approved a second reading of an ordinance that allows minor league baseball to stay in the city.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans have played baseball in Myrtle Beach since 1998. The lease expired in 2018, and the parties have worked under a series of extensions.

On Tuesday, council members voted on a 30-year lease to formally commit to keep the team at the Pelicans Ballpark.

The new lease terms allows Myrtle Beach to own 70% of the stadium while Horry County owns 30%.

Though the lease has been approved by the Myrtle Beach City Council, it will not be officially approved until the Horry County Council holds a public hearing to pass the lease on a third reading.
