Rep. Elise Stefanik is returning to House GOP leadership and committees.
Her return to the lower chamber comes after President Trump withdrew her nomination to become UN Ambassador over concerns about the slim GOP.
Speaker Mike Johnson is now appointing Stefanik to be chairwoman of House Republican leadership. The position is outlined in the conference’s rules, but is often vacant.
Stefanik’s office described it as “a senior leadership appointed position focused on strategy, communications, and executing on the mandate from the american people to pass President Trump’s agenda.”
The move ends two weeks of uncertainty about how Stefanik would return to leadership after she turned down her No. 4 leadership slot since she had been named Trump’s UN pick. Rep. Lisa McClain was elected in her place.
