Pentagon To Investigate Defense Secretary’s Use Of Signal App

The review comes after a bipartisan group of lawmakers have expressed concern over the use of 'Signal.'

The Pentagon’s acting inspector general announced plans to investigate Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in regards to the accidental group chat error.

In March, journalist Jeffrey Goldberg was added to a chat via the ‘Signal’ app. The chat also included several top officials. They discussed military action against Houthi militants in Yemen.

The White House investigated the incident but concluded that it was an accident and actions against those involve were not enacted.

Now, the Pentagon will look at Hegseth and other defense officials’ use of the publicly available encrypted app. The app cannot reportedly handle classified material and is not part of the defense department’s secure communications network.
