Hundreds Of Weather Forecasters And NOAA Employees Terminated

Cuts at NOAA appeared to be happening in two rounds, one of 500 and one of 800.

Hundreds of weather forecasters and other federal National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration employees were terminated Thursday.

Cuts at NOAA appeared to be happening in two rounds, one of 500 and one of 800. That covers around 10% of the administration’s workforce.

The first round of cuts were probationary employees totaling about 375 employees in the National Weather Service.

The layoffs reportedly included meteorologists who do crucial local forecasts across the country.

The terminations come amid efforts by Elon Musk and his DOGE to shrink a federal workforce, which is back by President Trump.

Thousands of probationary employees across the government have already been cut loose.
