President Trump is preparing to take control over the U.S. Postal Service.
The president is expected to issue an executive order to fire the members of the Postal Service’s governing board. The agency would be placed under the control of the Commerce Department and Secretary Howard Lutnick.
The move would allow Trump to absorb the independent mail agency into his administration. It could possibly throw the 250-year-old mail provider and trillions of dollars of e-commerce transactions into turmoil.
The board is planning to fight Trump’s order and has retained outside counsel with a goal to possibly sue the White House if Trump succeeds.
