USPS Postmaster General Is Resigning From The Position

Louis DeJoy sent a letter asking the Postal Service Board of Governors to begin looking for his successor.

The head of the U.S. Postal Service is resigning.

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is ending his nearly five-year tenure battered by the COVID-19 Pandemic, surges in mail-in election ballots and efforts to stem losses through cost and service cuts.

DeJoy first took control of the postal service in the summer of 2020 during President Trump’s first term. He was a Republican donor who owned a logistics business before taking office. That made him the first postmaster general in nearly two decades who was not a career postal employee.

However, on Monday, DeJoy sent a letter asking the Postal Service Board of Governors to begin looking for his successor.

A specific reason has not been announced, but DeJoy said he is committed to being “as helpful as possible in facilitating a transition.”
