CDC Told To Stop Working With The World Health Organization
The directions come after President Trump issued an executive order to begin the process of withdrawing the U.S. from "WHO."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have been told to stop working with a certain organization.
The CDC sent a memo to senior leaders at the agency telling them that all staff who work with the World Health Organization must immediately stop their collaboration and “await further guidance.”
That includes those who engage with “WHO” through technical working groups, coordinating centers, advisory boards, or other means. CDC staff are also not allowed to visit “WHO” offices or have any in person or virtual interactions.
The directions come after President Trump issued an executive order to begin the process of withdrawing the U.S. from “WHO.” The order did not take immediate effect due to further needed approval.
Experts are concerned the move may impact many investigations and attempts to stop disease outbreaks.
