Several Fast Food Chains Pull Onions From Menu After E. Coli Outbreak

Burger King and Yum Brands, which operates Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC, have pulled onion options.

Additional fast food chains have pulled onions from their menus due to a recent E. Coli outbreak. At least one person was killed and around 50 others became ill.

The outbreak has been linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounder Burger. However, the FDA linked it specifically to the slivered onions that come on the sandwich.

Out of an abundance of caution, Burger King and Yum Brands, which operates Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and KFC, have removed the onion option as well.

The FDA confirmed that Taylor Farms was the supplier for the affected McDonald’s locations. The company has placed a recall on yellow onions produced in a Colorado facility.

Regulators are still investigating whether McDonald’s beef patties could be affected.

A Colorado man has filed what appears to be the first lawsuit against McDonald’s over the outbreak, seeking over $50,000 in damages.
