The largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S. was the victim of a cyberattack.
American Water is a New Jersey based company that provides services to over 14 million people across 14 states and on 18 military installations.
It became aware of the unauthorized activity last week and immediately took protective steps, including shutting down certain systems.
The company has notified law enforcement and is cooperating with them.

The company manages over 500 water and wastewater systems in about 1,700 communities.
