Sen. Bernie Sanders Grills Novo Nordisk’s Chief Over Price Of Popular Drugs

Sen. Sanders alleges that 40,000 people a year in the U.S. could die if the company does not make the medicines more affordable.

Bernie Sanders grilled Novo Nordisk’s chief executive over the price of one of it’s popular drugs.

Ozempic and Wegovy have been in high demand in the U.S. recently.

Sanders noted the list price for a four-week supply of Ozempic is $969 in the U.S.. However, the drug can be purchased for $155 in Canada and $59 in Germany.

Similarly, Wegovy’s list price is just over $1,300 in the U.S., but it’s $186 in Denmark. In addition, it costs $140 in Germany and $92 in the U.K..

This marks the latest in a series of hearings Sanders has led with pharmaceutical company CEOs regarding the price of medicine in the U.S..
