Horry County Schools To Address Overcrowding Issues

Two elementary schools will open to assist with overcrowding across the Carolina Forest and River Oaks areas.

The Horry County Board of Education is addressing concerns regarding overcrowding attendance.

Horry County Schools are working to redraw attendance lines for the next school year. Monday, the district presented several drafts of the updated attendance lines.

Next August, two elementary schools will open to assist with overcrowding across the Carolina Forest and River Oaks areas.

Schools like Carolina Forest Elementary and River Oaks are both currently over capacity but the new lines could reduce attendance down to around 80% capacity.

Officials said they are open to feedback once the proposed maps are revealed to the public.

Further details remain limited for now, but the board could finalize the new attendance zones as soon as November.
