Scotland County Sheriff’s Office Warns Of Scam Phone Calls

The Scotland County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a current scam.
Many people have reported receiving calls from the sheriff’s office informing them of warrants against them. They are then given the option to pay money immediately to clear the warrant.
The callers are using names of current deputies and investigators with the department to make it seem real. However, Captain Randy Dover has confirmed that is not a call from the sheriff’s office.
Dover said the Scotland County authorities will never ask residents to pay money, or give their banking information by phone, to clear a warrant.
If you receive a scam call, you’re urged to call the sheriff’s office immediately to report it.
