The alleged data breach occurred when a background check company doing business as national public data, owned by Jerico Pictures Inc., failed to properly safeguard information it scraped in April.

A hacker group called ‘USDoD’ appears to have stolen around three billion of the company’s records. If true, the group posses sensitive information including people’s social security numbers as well as their names, addresses and more.

It has been reported that the group offered to sell the data from the U.S., Canada and U.K. on a dark web forum for $3.5 million. It was also said those involved should monitor their information, financial transactions and more.
