Donald J, “Don” Osmolak, 73, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Duke Medical Center. Born July 18, 1937 in Chicago, IL., the son of John and Marie, beloved husband of Ann. Don was a retired financial planner and was a resident of Carolina Trace since 2001. He was a keen golfer, active in the Carolina Trace Macho Gardening Club, treasurer of Hidden Lake POA, a bell ringer for the Salvation Army and an usher at St. Thomas‘ Episcopal Church in Sanford. Don was a lifelong traveler and together with Ann crisscrossed the United States and set foot on five of the other continents. He was a skillful cook and enjoyed entertaining his family and many friends. His hobbies included a brisk production of homemade jams and jellies with which he raised money for area charities. Don enjoyed Bridge, was a member of the Carolina Trace Players, and was passionate about the game of football. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Ann, mother Marie (Stasiak) son Victor and daughter Christine; predeceased by father John, and stepson Craig Stifler. Also survived by sisters Joan, Diane and Patricia, brothers-in-law Richard and Jerry, son-in-law Ray, grandchildren, Kate, Liz and Jack, nieces and nephews. Fr. Craig Lister will officiate at a memorial service this Sunday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. at St. Thomas‘ Episcopal Church, Sanford. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army and/or the Carolina Trace Commemorative Fund. Miller-Boles Funeral Home of Sanford is serving the family.
