Lake City Officials Pass A Hate Crime Ordinance
The new ordinance puts Lake City in line with the City of Conway and Florence who each passed similar laws.
Lake City passed a hate crime ordinance this week.
The ordinance was passed unanimously after a second reading.
This means an individual with a separate offense could be charged if there is intent to intimidate another person or persons due to their race, color, religion, gender, disabilities, or any description of themselves.
If charged, an individual could face up to a $500 fine or up to 30 days in prison.
The new ordinance puts Lake City in line with the City of Conway and Florence who each passed similar laws in March.
