Jordan Chiles Bronze Medal Stripped After Romania Challenges Score
Team USA attempted to appeal the arguments, showing proof that the inquiry was filed inside of one minute.
USA Gymnast Jordan Chiles was stripped of her first individual Olympic medal after the Romanian gymnastics team challenged her final score.
The 23-year-old gymnast executed her floor routine and initially earned a score of 13.666, placing her in fifth. That put her behind Romania’s Ana Bărbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea who were tied with 13.700.
However, USA gymnastics filed an inquiry over Chiles’ difficulty score. The judges then revised her score by giving her 13.766 to clinch the bronze medal.
Romania filed an official challenge with the court to review the circumstances surrounding the decision to revise Chiles’ score. They argued inquiry was filed four seconds after the one-minute deadline.
Chiles medal was taken from her and Team USA attempted to appeal the arguments, showing proof that the inquiry was filed inside of one minute.
A judge denied the appeal and the battle for bronze is far from over.
