President Biden, along with leaders of Egypt and Qatar, are working to push for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
A joint statement between the three was issued Thursday in which the leaders urged both sides to return to negotiations by next week.
The leaders said it is time to bring immediate relief both to “the long-suffering people of Gaza as well as the long-suffering of hostages and their families.” They added they are prepared to present a final “bridging proposal” aiming to solve remaining issues that would meet expectations of all parties.
The deal would be based on a three-phase proposal. The first phase includes a ceasefire as talks continue. The second would see a permanent end to hostilities in exchange for the release of all hostages. The third phase involves a multi-year reconstruction plan to begin in Gaza.
