How to Not Be a Helicopter Parent

It’s what they call parents who micromanage their kids.

Here’s a parenting term you might not have heard of: “helicopter parenting.” It’s what they call parents who micromanage their kids, and one hiring manager is speaking out about them. She says that of all the teens she’s hired for part-time jobs, those with helicopter parents perform the worst. On the other hand, her better-performing employees have parents who take a more hands-off approach, allowing them greater independence. She advises that the best way to avoid being a helicopter parent is to encourage your children to help out at home, allow them to make their own mistakes, and never apply for a job on their behalf.
