Scrap Metal Fire Prompts Air Quality Notice In Robeson County

It took more than 10 fire departments and 40 firefighters to get the flames under control.

Robeson County authorities have revealed the cause of a fire that prompted an air quality notice earlier this week.

The fire was located along the 400 block of Sandy Street in the Fairmont Community.

The Red Springs Fire Department administrator said a pile of scrap metal burned.

It was said the pile contained old parts, appliances and other metals.

Officials are not confident what initially sparked the fire at this time.

The fire burned for over six hours and it took more than 10 fire departments and 40 firefighters to get the flames under control.
