U.S. State Department Begins Testing Online Passport Renewal Program
Access to the program will be available for a limited time window each day and will close once it reaches the limit.
The U.S. State Department began testing an updated online passport renewal program Wednesday.
The program will accept a limited number of online applications each day for several months to track and address any issues.
Access to the program will be available for a limited time window each day and will close once it reaches the limit.
The number of accepted applications will slowly increase over time.
The processing times for the renewal program are the same as renewal by mail. Expedited or urgent travel passport services are not available for those renewing online.
The move comes two years after President Biden signed an executive order allowing online renewals for U.S. travelers.
