Israel Denies Responsibility For Strike Against “Safe Zone” In Gaza

Thursday's strikes come after a mass-casualty operation by Israel to rescue hostages held by Hamas over the weekend.

The israeli military has denied responsibility for a strike that targeted a “safe zone” in Gaza.

Al-Mawasi is a coastal region west of Rafah in which israel previously designated as a safe zone for Palestinians.

The area was bombarded Thursday by “land, sea and air strikes.” Navy boats participated in the attack by firing heavy machine guns.

An estimated 550,000 people are in that area but it is unclear at this time if there were any casualties.

Israel defense forces denied carrying out any strikes on the safe zone or surrounding areas.

The strike also comes as a ceasefire plan to end the eight month long war is in debate with neither side publicly committing to the deal yet.
