Washington Halts Aid Distribution Through Pier After It Sustained Damage
The structural damage incident highlights the numerous struggles surrounding the new humanitarian assistance operation.
The U.S. floating pier built on the Gaza strip coast has been damaged by rough seas.
The structure will now be removed from its anchored position. It is set to be towed to Ashdod in southern Israel where U.S. Central Command will make repairs.
Fixing the pier is expected to take “at least over a week” before it can be re-anchored to the coast of Gaza.
Due to the situation, Washington has temporarily suspended aid deliveries to Palestinians via the structure.
The pier just began sending humanitarian aid through the maritime corridor recently in attempt to get to those in need while avoiding borders that Israel has taken control of.
