Norway, Ireland And Spain Say They Would Recognize A Palestinian State

The announcements could build momentum at a time when even close allies of Israel have criticized its conduct in the Middle East.

Norway, Ireland and Spain said Wednesday they would recognize a Palestinian state.

While some 140 countries recognize a Palestinian state, the additional three mark a historic symbolic move that further deepens Israel’s isolation amid its ongoing war against Hamas in Gaza.

The announcements could build momentum at a time when even close allies of Israel have criticized its conduct in the Middle East.

Israel immediately denounced the decisions and recalled its ambassadors to the three countries.

Palestinians welcomed the announcements as an affirmation to their decades-long quest for statehood in East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

The war that has been ongoing since October has sparked much controversy and division among countries.
