“Devastating” Fatal Tornado Tore Through An Iowa Community
Iowa state police have confirmed that a number of people died but the exact death toll is unknown at this time.
A “devastating” tornado ravaged across rural communities in Central Iowa Tuesday.
The tornado touched down in the town of Greenfield, a community of around 2,000 people 40 miles southwest of Des Moines.
Iowa state police have confirmed that a number of people died but the exact death toll is unknown at this time.
At least 12 people were transported to hospitals to be treated for injuries. The Adair County Memorial Hospital was damaged along with many structures. The damage forced first responders to take victims to facilities elsewhere.
Streets that were in the path of the twister are now wrecked with debris as well as downed trees and demolished vehicles.
At least 28 homes were damaged ranging from “affected to destroyed.”
Greenfield was not the only town that experienced severe weather. Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds has declared a disaster in 15 counties all together.
The weather is expected to move away from the Midwest and toward the Southern Plains and Mississippi Valley Wednesday.
