Scottie Scheffler Arrested Ahead Of PGA Championship Second Round

Scheffler was arrested and booked by Louisville Metro Police and faces a number of charges including felony second degree assault on a police officer.

The world’s No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, was arrested before the start of round two of the PGA Championship Friday morning.

Scheffler was arrested and booked by Louisville Metro Police and faces a number of charges including felony second degree assault on a police officer, reckless driving, criminal mischief, and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.

The charges are all related to the police investigation of a pedestrian who was fatally struck outside valhalla golf club in Louisville, where the second round of the PGA Championship was taking place.

Police say Scheffler refused to stop and follow orders at a barricade set up near the scene. Instead he allegedly drove through dragging an officer who tried to stop the car. His attorney calls the whole incident a “big misunderstanding.”

Despite the arrest, Scheffler was able to return to the golf club, a little less than an hour before he was scheduled to tee off.

In a statement, Scheffler called the situation very “chaotic” adding “there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions.” He also expressed sympathy for the family of the man killed in the accident.
