House Votes To Block Rep. Greene’s Effort To Oust Speaker Mike Johnson

Mike Johnson was elected speaker last year after the ousting of Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

The House voted Wednesday to block Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s effort to oust Speaker Mike Johnson from his leadership role.

The vote was 359-43 in Johnson’s favor, which came with the help of Democrats.

The move brings an end to the most serious challenge the Louisiana Republican has faced so far as House speaker.

Johnson spoke briefly following the vote. He referred to Greene’s campaign against him as “misguided.” He also thanked colleagues for a “show of confidence” in his leadership.

Johnson was elected speaker last year after the ousting of Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. He said he intends to do his job and continue to do what he believes is the right thing, which is what he was elected to do.
