Lake Paul Wallace Dam Inspected A Week Before It Breached
The inspection report has not been finalized yet. However, DHEC said no evidence indicated any type of imminent risk of breach or failure.
New reports reveal the Lake Paul Wallace Dam was inspected just a week before it was breached.
The structure is a high-hazard dam which DHEC performs routine inspections on every two years. The last one on this structure was conducted on April 30.
The inspection report has not been finalized yet. However, DHEC said no evidence indicated any type of imminent risk of breach or failure.
The agency and other state and local officials are now on-site to outline the requirements for repairs needed to restore the dam’s integrity.
Lake Paul Wallace was completely drained Tuesday to eliminate any further threat of flooding.
No one was injured in Monday’s dam breach and all evacuees have now returned to their homes.
