U.S. Pauses Large Weapons Shipment To Israel Over Concerns For Rafah

Over a million palestinians are sheltering in Rafah and the U.S. has strongly opposed Israel's offensive plans.

The U.S. paused a large weapons shipment last week intended to be sent to Israel.

The halt is due to Israel’s plans of military offensive in Rafah.

Over a million palestinians are sheltering in the southern Gaza city and the U.S. has strongly opposed Israel’s offensive plans over concerns for civilians as well as lack of aid.

The shipment included 1,800 2,000-pound bombs and 1,700 500-pound bombs.

The U.S. began reviewing future transfers of military assistance to Israel last month, as it appeared to move closer to a Rafah operation. Israel planned to move forward despite President Biden, other world leaders and humanitarian officials’ advice not to move into Rafah.

Israel officially made its first move into the area this week.
