Dam In Marlboro County Breached Prompting Evacuations

The Bennettsville Community Center and the Marlboro County High School were open as shelters to those in need.

A dam broke in Marlboro County Monday prompting evacuations.

The dam at Lake Paul Wallace in Bennettsville breached shortly before 6pm.

The Bennettsville Community Center and the Marlboro County High School were open as shelters to those in need. However, both shelters closed around 10pm.

A flash flood warning for low-lying Marlboro County communities was issued and was not lifted until 10:45am Tuesday.

All evacuees and pets were safely relocated Monday night.

Assessments are taking place Tuesday.
