Trump Fined $9,000 For Violating Gag Order In Hush Money Trial
The judge warned Trump that he could face incarceration if he continued to violate the order.
Donald Trump has been fined in his ongoing criminal hush money trial.
Last Tuesday’s proceedings began with addressing Trump over nine violations of the gag order that took effect before the trial started.
Judge Juan Merchan has now fined Trump $9,000 for violating the gag order. The rules prohibited Trump from making public statements about jurors, witnesses, prosecutors, court staff and members of their families.
Merchan also warned Trump that he could face incarceration if he continued to violate the order and gave him until later that afternoon to remove social media posts related to the ruling, which he did.
The judge’s decision came as prosecutors prepared to resume presenting their case against Trump.
The former president is charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide payments to Stormy Daniels. The money was an alleged attempt to keep her quiet about an alleged sexual encounter.
