At Least 40 People Died After A Dam Burst In Kenya

Kenya’s interior minister ordered the inspection of all public and private dams and water reservoirs within 24 hours starting Monday afternoon to prevent future incidents.

A dam collapsed in western Kenya Monday killing at least 40 people.

The ‘Old Kijabe Dam’ is located in the Great Rift Valley region. The area that is prone to flash floods, collapsed and water ran downstream.

Heavy rainfall has been pounding the country since mid-March with more expected to come.

The rains have caused flooding that has already killed around 100 people and postponed the opening of schools.

The dam burst sent a wall of water sweeping through houses and cut off a major highway.
